A pleasant diversion or amusement; an agreeable occupation for the mind. Solving the daily crossword puzzle is a form of entertainment for many people.

The word entertainment is derived from the Latin verb inter tenere, meaning to hold inside. It is a highly subjective term, as what may be entertaining for one person or group of people may not be entertaining to another. According to Oliver and Barstsch, entertainment is defi ned as an activity understood objectively, involves communication between text and audience, has an external stimulus, off ers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form.
